Holland / Southern tour

Day 1 Amsterdam - Haarlem

The boat will be waiting for you in the centre of Amsterdam. Embarkation from 2 pm onwards. Late afternoon the ship will sail to Haarlem. You will be invited for a welcome drink and first briefing on board.

Day 2 Haarlem - Zaandam (40/50 km)

You can choose from 2 bike routes. Both tours take you through the beautiful Kennemer dunes, a national park where you can spot several bird species, Scottish Highland cows and Shetland ponies. After a visit to the seaside resorts Bloemendaal and Zandvoort you will cycle through the forests and the center of Haarlem back to the boat. The longer cycling tour leads to the largest steam engine of the world, the Cruquius pumping station and back to Haarlem. During dinner your ship will cruise to Zaandam.

Day 3 Zaandam - Amsterdam (35 km)

In Zaandamwe recommend a visit to the open air museum „Zaanse Schans“, featuring an old village with traditional wooden houses, windmills, a typical cheese farm and a clog maker. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to enjoy a bike tour along Amsterdam canals.

Day 4 Amsterdam - Rotterdam (25/40 km)

In the morning you will sail to Breukelen and have the first bike tour along the charming Vecht river. You will follow it into the centre of Utrecht with its Dom (Cathedral) tower, 111 m. high, from where, if the weather is clear, you will be able to see Amsterdam from afar. In the afternoon you will continue by boat from Utrecht to Rotterdam, a city that was completely destroyed during the Second World War and rebuilt in the 50s-60s: that is why it looks so modern nowadays.

Day 5 Rotterdam – Delft - Rotterdam (30/50 km)

Today you will cycle via the “jenever city” of Schiedam and through the Delfland area to Delft, famous for its blue pottery. Visit the beautiful city center with its small canals, picturesque streets, bridges and alleys. For many of our guests a visit to the Delftware factory is one of the highlights of their tour. Afterwards, you will cycle back to Rotterdam, where you can enjoy a short city walk in the evening.

Day 6 Rotterdam - Schoonhoven (30/60 km)

Today you will start your tour with the “Waterbus”, a fast ferry that will take you and your bike to Alblasserdam or Kinderdijk (depending on the departure time of the waterbus). After just a few minutes of cycling you will reach Kinderdijk, a village famous for its impressive row of 19 large windmills. You then have the choice between a longer bike tour with a visit to the beautiful cheese city of Gouda or a short bike tour through the Alblasserwaard. Both tours end in the “silver city” of Schoonhoven on the Lek River, where you can visit a silversmith. In the evening you can enjoy a city walk through Schoonhoven.

Day 7 Schoonhoven - Amsterdam (45 km)

Today you will cycle from Schoonhoven through the beautiful “Green Heart” of Holland along small villages and quiet roads to Utrecht. On your way you can visit a traditional cheese farm and in Oudewater you can visit the Witches Weigh House. In the late afternoon the ship will sail from Utrecht to Amsterdam.

Day 8 Amsterdam

After breakfast, disembarkation and end of the tour.

Due to organisational reasons, weather conditions or provisions issued by local authorities, the itinerary may be subject to some changes before and/or during the holiday. Issues with high and low water, as well as logistic obstacles such as officially ordered - previously not announced - repair work on locks or bridges can modify some of the daily stretches or overnight stays and may even request a transfer by bus. These decisions are only taken by the barge’s captain.

In this tour overnight, breakfast and dinner will be on board of the river boat.
